Em contrapartida a como vivemos hoje, sempre com pressa. A solução? Focar nas atividades que realmente “valem a pena”.

A grande questão é que existe um conjunto de perguntas que não estão respondidas, e saber a resposta para elas significaria um diferencial relevante perante a seus concorrentes. Estas perguntas são as perguntas que ainda não foram feitas.

Questionando e levantando pontos que ainda não foram pensados e muito menos respondidos podemos entrar em posições vantajosas, que nos leva a diversos passos a frente de quem está tentando nos passar. Por isso questione, essa é a melhor maneira de achar respostas que as outras pessoas ainda não possuem.

1. Escrever com mais frequência, pois pequei muito neste aspecto durante o ano de 2009, pretendia escrever um post por semana mais ou menos e acabei escrevendo uns 6 o ano inteiro. Para 2010 espero conseguir atualizar o blog com muito mais frequência, e irei.

2. Escrever em português sei que poderia atingir um público muito maior escrevendo em inglês, porém sinto que não atinjo diversas pessoas ao meu redor, que por sua vez são meu objetivo principal, pessoas essas que dentro do possível pretendo ajudar compartilhando minhas experiências e conhecimento.

3. Criar seções específicas no blog, criar seções como review de livros, frases que acho importantes e claro além dos posts tradicionais falando de startups, empreendedorismo e de qualquer assunto que me venha em mente.

4. Finalizar um projeto pessoal. Normalmente estou cheio de idéias e na maioria delas até começo a levar para frente, mas acabo não terminando principalmente por falta de tempo e energia. Mas esse ano terei mais tempo para estas tarefas, portanto estou na obrigação de terminar ao menos um projeto até o fim do ano.

5. Dedicar mas tempo as coisas que sou apaixonado. Creio que esta seja a mais difícil, principalmente por não ter certeza quais são as maiores paixões da minha vida. Digo isso em relação a trabalho não a pessoas, talvez seja minha tarefa dedicar mais tempo a descobrir como posso achar minha paixão e como transformar ela em meu sustento.

Bom creio que tenha exposto os maiores desafios e objetivos deste ano para mim, portanto mãos a obra, o próximo post será uma review do livro do autor Seth Godin que se chama Linchpin e será lançado oficialmente daqui a uma semana. Consegui uma cópia em uma promoção do autor em seu blog, e já dou uma prévia, leiam assim que puderem.

Don’t start a startup if you don’t believe and is not passionated for it

Ok, it seems obvious and it is, but I did it, believe me, I DID IT. It was not a good idea start a startup just because there was a good opportunity, it won’t take too long for you to figure out that it was not a good idea at all. It’s almost impossible at least for me to spend my time doing something I don’t like. Also if you have a day job you won’t quit it, because you are not passionated for the idea and you don’t want to give up of your day-to-day money.

Don’t work with something you don’t like

It’s very personal, but I completely dislike to work with something that I don’t like (it seems obvious too). When you start working with something you don’t like you don’t mind, probably because you are seeing the money in the end of the tunnel, however as much as you go you will be figuring out that the tunnel is not so short as you expected and the idea of keep working HARD to make your startup succeed won’t be valid anymore.

If you have a cofounder align the responsibilities and the dedication expected

Nothing could be more desmotivating than you dedicate your PRECIOUS time to a project, work very hard, and your cofounder don’t correspond with your expectations, don’t matter how. It make you feel that it is totally unfair, work so HARD to have everything shared with somebody that didn’t worked as HARD as you expected.
(I never talked with my cofounder to get some feedback of what I was doing, maybe he’s unsatisfied also, who knows?)

Release early release often

Well this is the most mentioned by every one that write about startups, so MEN believe me. If you release early and often you can get feedback from your customer and work in your product to fit the customer expectations, you can start to enter in the market sooner than the other competitors. In my case I entered in an opportunity as all of my competitors, but I forgot to release early and often so when I entered in the market it was already full, and I didn’t has the energy (neither the will) to keep the project running to try to suppress my competitors. Well I hope this don’t happen with anyone of you, I’m sure that there was a lot more points to mention, however the ones I mentioned were the ones I remembered quickly so they bother me more than the others. Bing vs Google

Looks like bing will be the next google killer! OR I’m a little bit egocentric.

I didn’t find any good reason to move from Google (except this result ), I thought you didn’t find either. Because there is no reson. Bing don’t show us any improvement from google, by the contrary is exactly the same. The 1° position in web searches, as we know it, is already defined and won’t change so soon. When Google arrived it changed many concepts in internet search engines, and even changing for better it took more than 2 year to become popular.

Microsoft miss his target again.

I don’t remember exactly when this started but here are some of the most commented the last year. Cuil, Twitter, Wolfram.

You can call me coward to not mention this while they’re being launched (that time I wasn’t writing yet), but my pourpose here is not say just that everyone that wrote those things were wrong.

Probably they were motivated to the will of hit the target and be the first one to “detect” that that new application really destroyed that “giant” (like google, wikipedia) and then post again saying “I predicted this much time ago, look <link>”. 

Even wikipedia, Yes1, yes2, wikipedia. 

The guys that usually say “%s killer” (%s is C syntax to “insert string here”) as mentioned by cellis in Hacker News have to think a little bit more before write these things, because they just don’t even think about the subject before write.

When Wolfram Alpha was launched I think there were posted more than 1 time each second in blogs that it would be the google killer and the bloggers don’t even thought that it is much more mathematical and direct response oriented then google, so their purpose is different and they can’t kill each other.

And wikipedia have a different concept of knowledge, that is based in the knowledge of every person that uses it.

So please, let’s stop trying finding THESE killers. If you want to find killers, be a detective/inspector/cop.

The brazilian government HAVE to use any acurate metric, because if it was subjective it can be corrupted (we know that acurate ones can be also). 

So I’m writing this post to ask you some help in this subject hence in your country probably have a very more interesting way of contract companys for government software development. Just to give you some background, currently in Brasil we make contracts based in usecase-points and function points, what is a very old metric, since they don’t avaliate any process used neither the quality of software generated.

But, before start the development I decide to research about another technologies that are being used currently for web-development. One of the languages that I realized was the mostly praised was the ruby language (together with rails framework). So I decide to give it a try.

When I started the development using this technology I could realize that everything that was said in the tutorials and discussion threads I found were real. The development with Ruby on Rails is very productive and the rails framework is very well documented, however what I noticed is that these characteristics isn’t enought for me to choose this technology to work with, since the curve of learn still there.

So, what makes me choose rails?

The community. I never saw in another technology I worked with, a community so dedicated, that provides you support for any questions and also provides extraordinary material for study, like casts, guides, forums, open-source plugins and any material you can imagine.

In addition to it, this community still growing, and fast, so it will become even better in the future. Furthemore I’m satisfied with my decision and I hope you drive in the same way I drove, because rails rulez!

Even though there are a lot of companies that goes in another way, instead of be worried with pioneering, they work to be remarkable and pass the competition with their new ideas.

Thinking this way, I will be developing a new service, that I will work to be a remarkable one, so my intention is pass the competition and get some part of the market-share changing the way people think about this market.

It’s not a super-super service, this service will, at the beggining be used just for brazilian people and more focused in the southest ones, the ones we can get in toutch with and the one that should start spreading the idea.

Hope the new service, runs in that way.

Soon I will be telling you what is this service, but first, let me start the development. I really don’t want to run my idea in steath mode, since I will share it soon and try to listen your ideas to improve mine.
